Pebbledash Painting in Oxford

Radcliffe Decorators paint pebbledash and pebble dash exteriors across Oxford and Oxfordshire.
Pebbledash is one of the most recognisable exterior finishes on Oxford’s housing stock. Interwar and postwar semis carry it widely. Done properly, a fresh coat transforms a tired-looking semi.

Pebbledash Painting Services in Oxford
How Pebbledash is Painted
Pebbledash is heavily textured. A standard short-pile roller misses the recesses. We use long-pile masonry rollers and work paint into the surface in multiple passes. Pebbledash consumes considerably more paint per square metre than smooth surfaces.
Preparation and Treatment
We start with a thorough pressure wash. On north-facing elevations, moss and algae must be killed before painting. After washing, we apply a mould treatment and allow the surface to dry fully.
Colour Options and Paint Selection
We use breathable masonry paint throughout. The most popular moves on Cowley and Headington semis are from dated beige or cream to light grey, stone, or off-white. See our exterior painting page for the full exterior service.
Partial Pebbledash
Many Oxford interwar semis have pebbledash on the upper half only. We work upper-storey sections from scaffold towers or ladders depending on access. Where scaffold is required, we price this into the quote.

Our Pebbledash Painting Process
1. Assessment
We inspect the surface condition, note any areas of moss, staining, or detached pebbles, and quote accordingly.
2. Pressure Wash
The whole surface is washed to remove biological growth, loose material, and dirt from the texture.
3. Mould Treatment
A treatment is applied where algae or moss is present and left to work.
4. Surface Repairs
Any detached pebble areas are filled and prepared.
5. Masking
Windows, doors, sills, and surrounding surfaces are masked.
6. First Coat
Thick masonry paint applied by long-pile roller, worked into the texture with a brush.
7. Second Coat
Applied once the first coat is fully dry.

Pebbledash Painting Costs in Oxford
Prices below are estimates only. Every property is different. Call 01865 537996 for a precise quote.

What Drives the Price
Surface condition, pebble repairs, and property size. Oxford labour costs are 15 to 20 percent higher than the UK average.
Typical Ranges
3-bed semi with pebbledash upper half: £650 to £1,100. Full pebbledash elevation: £950 to £1,600. 4-bed detached fully pebbledashed: £1,400 to £2,400.
Paint Consumption
Pebbledash uses significantly more paint per square metre than smooth surfaces. This affects materials costs and is reflected in the pricing.
Pebbledash painting is often combined with render painting or fascia and soffit repainting as part of a wider exterior refresh.
